Monitoring and engaging with political, social, economic and military thinking.

Conflict Studies Research Centre is a research, analysis and consultancy group with strong expertise in Eurasian area studies and defence studies, cyber security, energy security and terrorist finance.

CSRC's members are drawn from among staff of the UK Ministry of Defence's former open source research groups, the Advanced Research and Assessment Group (ARAG) and Research and Assessment Branch (R&AB).

The strength of CSRC lies in its proven capability for deep analysis of open source intelligence (OSINT) sources. CSRC is able to provide cogent and timely analysis of geopolitical issues highlighting their significance in order to inform decision-makers.

About Us

CSRC’s antecedents date back to 1972, when the Soviet Studies Research Centre was founded at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

This was the original “Red Team”, tasked with interpreting the thinking and attitudes of the then Soviet bloc in order accurately to assess threats and vulnerabilities.

Working from unclassified sources, CSRC experts monitor and engage with political, social, economic and military thinking in areas of interest via both formal and informal channels.

They play an active role in both local and international initiatives to develop expertise in all aspects of security policy.
